About the Author - Josie Leckie

Josie was born the oldest child of a family of four in the university
city of Dunedin, New Zealand. Dunedin is hailed the Edinburgh
of the south complete with a statue of Robbie Burns in the Octagon,
the city centre, and home of the ‘Mighty Highlanders’ of the
‘House of Pain’ fame.

At the turn of the century she and her then husband immigrated to
Australia to settle on the Gold Coast.

In the early 1970’s at the age of seventeen she entered her nursing vocation at Dunedin Hospital. In a career spanning three decades her compassion and caring for others has made a difference in many patients’ lives. An avid reader and advocate of the empowering nature of education, she completed her bachelor of nursing degree a decade ago. She has a strong interest in the benefits of natural therapies.

As a child Josie learned elocution but now in her second half century having joined Toastmasters in July 2006 she is fascinated creating word pictures and using humor to weave the craft of story-telling. She hungrily embraced the vision and empowerment of the Toastmasters programme of encouragement to ‘just have a go mate.’ Josie achieved her Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB) in 2009. She is currently serving as a club president and aims to achieve her Advanced Communicator Silver in the next twelve months.

Josie has found and is using her voice. To be listened to, to be heard, is a most precious jewel in the difficult art of communication as it validates you as a person and authenticates the essence of who you are. It is a rare thing to be listened to in this frantic pace of the 21st century. Now there is an urgency within her to foster self esteem and self worth in others to live to their fullest potential.

New Life on the Gold Coast, Australia

A self confessed picnicaholic, she loves exploring ‘the green behind the gold,’ in the beautiful Gold Coast hinterland rainforests. She has two awesome sons, and four spunky grandsons.
